PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAMS

The PALS for Health Training Division was created in 2001 to ensure the highest standards and protocols for language services.

Courses are geared for different levels of professionals
  • ‘New’ Language Specialists: Individuals with strong language skills (able to speak and/or write fluently in both English and another language) with little or no prior professional training or experience but wanting to achieve a more professional status.
  • ‘Expert’ Language Specialists: Individuals who have successfully completed a minimum of 40 hours of language training but seeking to ‘refresh’ their language skills, develop new skills and/or achieve national accreditation through accrediting bodies such as Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI).
Courses are provided in small group sessions with qualified language instructors.  Experienced bilingual language specialists are brought in for breakout sessions and practice sessions.  Internships are also provided to successful graduates.

PALS for Health was part of the original expert team that created the renowned ‘Connecting Worlds’ Training that is the current standard curriculum for most if not all Interpreter Training courses offered today.  The course is 40 hours and students may qualify for CEU’s.  PALS Connecting Worlds Training is recognized by the California Healthcare Interpreting Association (CHIA).

The training offered by PALS for Health provides entry for language specialists seeking employment in a variety of settings including but not limited to general health care, specialized health care (cancer, breast health, HIV/AIDS, etc.), education, general business, specialty business (worker’s compensation) and more.

PALS for Health is currently working on specialized  training modules for areas including but not limited to court interpreting/legal services, retail, wholesale and international business.
