Summary
Entry-level position in health/social service arena. This position is ideal for a community-minded individual who is seeking to learn more about language, social service and health needs of the Asian and Pacific Islander (API) and Latino populations in Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Potential for personal development and career growth. Responsible for the coordination of translation assignments and quality assurance of translation projects. Must be able to work independently.
Essential Functions
Responsible for the coordination and dispatch of all written translation requests
Assist Program Coordinator with the coordination and dispatch of verbal interpretation requests
Receive and process monthly consultant paperwork for payment
Assist in the monthly billing of services for written translation or interpretation services for fee for service facilities
Coordinate training's and ensure quality of work provided by translators
Assist in actively recruiting potential translators through the participation in community events
Secondary Functions
Establish and maintain working relationships with community-based and health care organizations
Advocate for issues and policies relating to and affecting LEP persons
Perform other administrative tasks and assignments as required
Minimum Qualifications - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Verification of Employment Eligibility, Background Check, and Reliable Transportation
Undergraduate degree in health promotion, social services, ethnic studies or equivalent field. An associate degree with prior relevant experience will also be considered
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Must have willingness to learn and work with LEP communities in various areas of health
Knowledge and understanding of the various aspects of Los Angeles County’s diverse populations
Knowledge of health care field and interpretation/translation strongly preferred
Ability to work independently, and in teams, in a fast-paced environment
Working knowledge in computer operations including: Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and publishing software.
Non-Essential Qualifications (optional) - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bilingual skills (especially in Khmer, Tagalog or Vietnamese) strongly preferred.
